There is no questioning that if you want to raise your income in your salon studio a great place to start would be taking a look at your social media stats. In today’s post, I am breaking the misconception that social media is everything, to an extent and I’m gonna talk a little about what does matter!

If you are running a salon studio then you are fully aware that there is big money to be made on social media. I have a little secret for you though. You don’t have to have a huge following to make good money in general!

Many people are interested in trying to build a social media following but they are overwhelmed by the ever-changing algorithms and how far they need to go to have “big” following. You can take all of the online courses and learn all of the branding tricks and content creation techniques in the world and sometimes you could still fall short of hitting your follow count goals but realize you are hitting your sales goals! It really is a game of trial and error at the end of the day.

Hitting your sales goals is WAY better than your follow count goals anyways right?!

If you are trying to focus on building up your social media accounts in your business right now, take some pressure off of yourself first by starting with one platform. I would go with the one that you think your ideal clients are on that you also enjoy using yourself.

If you think your clients are on facebook but you absolutely hate using Facebook, I would think about moving to the next place your clients usually hang out at. Maybe Instagram is your jam or Pinterest or Twitter!

If there is one thing our new digital age has not fallen short on its options for social media. My point here is if you are interested in diving deeper into social media marketing pick the platform that you are going to be happy working with!

As cool as having a big following on social media sounds it doesn’t determine your worth as a stylist and it is not the only thing your potential customers are looking at so do not let that keep you from still taking advantage of the power of having a business on social media!

Being famous on Instagram is like being rich in monopoly!

I have talked to some of the most successful salon studio owners that are truly thriving in the industry and do not have a huge social media account. So how do you make money off of social media without a big following?

You use it in all of the same ways!

Social media can still benefit you even if you only have a few hundred followers.

Post quality content that is directed at speaking to your ideal customer.

Talk to them as yourself and post pictures that accurately represent your beautiful work!

Post quotes that support the mission of your salon studio stand for and behind the scenes looks into what you really do!

Social media is an opportunity to show your current customers and potential customers what a day in your salon is like.

Make sure you are adding in a call to actions. A call to action is when you tell someone what to do next while they are reading your post. So for instance, a call to action would be like posting about something on your website and then say “Link in bio!” or telling them to tell you information about themselves.

Whatever you do don’t forget that YOU are what is unique about your salon studio! Make sure you are letting your personality shine through your posts.

When asking clients why they stay loyal to certain hairstylists many people will mention because of the way they feel when they are with the person doing their hair. You could be a great stylist but without being who you are you wouldn’t have the clientele you have!

If you are looking for a way to step your social media game up check out my other article on Setting up a Photoshoot Worthy Salon Suite for Social Media Marketing. In this article, we talk about setting up your salon studio to take high-quality pictures that fit into your brand and accurately depict your salon studios style!

When you create a beautiful space online for potential customers to see what you are really all about, it gives them a reason to trust you making it that much more likely they will make an appointment for a service. Another simple call to action would be putting your online booking link into your profile bio and then telling your viewers they can book online from there!

People like easy and convenient! Don’t you?!

You may not have a big following and maybe you are ready to let go of that pressure but don’t be surprised if by letting go of a specific number of followers you want that you actually end up slowly getting there.

The compound effect of being authentic and creating a profile online that connects to a specific person will attract more then you might think!

So, no matter what your current social media follower count is or what your goals are for it, don’t let the number stop you from being authentic and true to yourself. Posting is still beneficial no matter where in the journey you are. If you aren’t to your goals yet, keep going.

Rome wasn’t built overnight and neither will your social media following!
